That green tint isn't just a change of clothes; it’s the plant’s way of shouting that it's exposed. It starts pumping out chlorophyll to catch some rays, but it also brews up a nasty chemical called solanine.

Think of it as a biological burglar alarm. Since it’s no longer hidden safely underground, it turns itself into a toxic little landmine to stop any passing critter from making a meal of it.
