It turns high noon into midnight in seconds. It’s the ultimate atmospheric tantrum, leaving you with a ruined picnic and a mouth full of silt.

Wait, what makes that cold air column so heavy it just falls?

It’s all down to a bit of physics-induced misery called evaporative cooling. As rain falls through dry air, it evaporates before it can even touch the sand, which is just typical, isn't it?
